Used to be that you spun a record and stared at the packaging and had an experience, over and over again. No longer. Over and over isn’t necessary–everyone’s got a near-infinite record collection. Listening and staring are losing their footing as well. Take, for example, this long list of music apps, maps, and other music-related toys from Echo Nest Labs.
We encountered Roadtrip Mixtape first, which pulls up Spotify a list of artists who hail from whatever towns you’re driving through. The Bonhamizer lured us next (upload a song and it’s rendered as if had John Bonham on drums). There’s lots more where those came from.
Echo Nest, remember, is the music data hub–aka “music intelligence company”–that Spotify purchased for big piles of dollars last spring. (Or maybe it was a thin pile–just a single hundred million dollar bill.) In any case, it’s a company, these things exist, you might consider checking them out. Enjoy.
